ramtikManila, PH – Glamster Co-Founder and CEO, Kartik Ram, a Singapore-based internet and mobile commerce executive visits the country to speak on the potentials of mobile commerce, on the occasion of the First Philippine CMO Mobile Summit, happening on 30 May at the Banyan Hall, Blue Leaf, The Fort, in Taguig City.

Addressing some 300 executive level marketers on the theme: “Mobile and the Path to Purchase”, the whole day learning event tackles, among others, mobile commerce at a time when people are becoming more and more attached to, if not dependent on their mobile phones, and it is considered high time for businesses to maximize their presence on the platform by using it as a tool to close the loop in the purchase funnel.

“My prediction is that mobile commerce is set to skyrocket in Southeast Asia, particularly Philippines and Indonesia, as smartphone sales are exploding; leading to a natural demand for apps and mobile websites that allow customers to buy tickets, shop for products and do routine banking transactions more effortlessly than ever before,” said Ram.

According to a recent study published by Adweek, 18-34 year olds are highly likely to use their mobile device as a shopping tool. This demographic goes in-store and does shopping comparisons, and then requests price matching with their phone in hand. They also favor shopping directly from their mobile device with mobile apps and mobile sites. Essentially, mobile commerce is not just a subset of e-commerce but rather a whole new paradigm in retail, banking and content”, stressed Kartik Ram.

Ram has 17 years of experience in internet and mobile marketing in North America, Asia and the Middle East. He was recently the General Manager of Asia Pacific at Adfonic, a global top 5 mobile advertising network with 100 billion monthly impressions and 250 million customers. Prior to Adfonic, Kartik was the Senior Vice President at One97, Asia’s leading mobile internet platform pioneer backed by Intel, Silicon Valley Bank and SAP Ventures. Before his stint at One97, Kartik was a Director of Sales at NASDAQ listed Velti, which grew significantly during his tenure to $100 million in revenue. In the 11 years prior, Kartik held various leadership roles at Silicon Valley internet companies. He holds an MBA from London Business School with prior schooling from Stanford University and Texas State University. Kartik is a frequent speaker at technology conferences, serves on various industry advisory boards and has guest lectured at London Business School, INSEAD and University of Rhode Island. He has been a technology columnist for UAE’s newspaper, Khaleej Times, and is the author of an upcoming book on marketing strategy, Shoponomics.
