The Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art is showcasing the works of local female artists starting this Friday, and you won’t have to travel or pay admission to enjoy the experience.

ILOMOCA is holding a free virtual exhibit titled “7.23%” to pay homage to the contribution of women in the art landscape of the Philippines.

Curated by Marika Constantino, the exhibit will display artworks by 44 artists to be featured on ILOMOCA’s Facebook page from Aug. 14 to Oct. 19, 2020.

The grand launch will take place on Aug. 14 at 7:23 p.m. via Facebook livestream.

The name of the exhibit takes inspiration from the proportion of works attributed to women artists that compose ILOMOCA’s overall collection.

“Beyond acknowledging an imbalance in art and cultural institutions, the figure also represents the disproportionate realities faced by women, as manifested in pay gaps and domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence,” the official press release read.

“7.23% also poses a challenge for ILOMOCA to attain a higher ratio of art made by women and generates a call to action to address such inequality,” it added.

The event also coincides with the 11th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta of Women in the Philippines.
