(Manila, Philippines, December 15, 2014) — In this season of love and giving, nothing should stand in the way of keeping families together, no matter the distance.

Today, Google Philippines launched a campaign that will help overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families sustain and enrich their relationships despite physical and through digital barriers.”Balikbayan” strives to enable Filipino families and communities to ‘share the everyday’ through platforms and information that connect them with one another.

The campaign uses several components to support Filipino communities around the world, strengthen their ties with the families they left in the Philippines, and prepare soon-to-be OFWs as they set out for their overseas career paths.

Netizens can visit g.co/balikbayan to know how Google tools such as Hangouts, Maps, and Search can augment their needs for a highly-interactive messaging platform, accurate information, and relevant news. For new settlers abroad, arming yourself with the right information when you need them will aid in familiarizing yourself with the new culture and landscape.

To foster learning, simultaneous workshops will be held in Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur, where users will be introduced to the Google tools. They can also visit OFW Circle, a Google+ Community where OFWs can meet, exchange information, and be part of the thriving global Filipino online community.

“Christmas is the most important celebration of the year for many Filipinos and its essence lies in precious moments shared with the family. Though technology helps bridge the distance, OFW families still yearn for some normality, like having their loved ones closer to home. In this project, we provide the opportunity for families to come together in one hub, regardless of their actual location, and share memories seamlessly, like they’re never apart,” said Ryan Morales, Google Philippines Country Marketing Manager.
